Addis Ababa Seeks CIFF Partnership to Expand Women’s Skills Center

Addis Ababa plans to expand its Lenegewa Women’s Rehabilitation and Skills Development Centre into a facility capable of supporting up to 10,000 women a year, as the city seeks to build partnerships to support the programme’s growth.

Chris Hohn, founder of the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), joined Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie in visiting the centre, where they discussed potential areas of cooperation to support its future expansion.

The centre has trained 3,259 women since its establishment in 2024, providing vocational and personal development training through five rounds of programmes before supporting participants to enter employment.

The initiative targets women facing various social challenges and seeks to help them develop skills, secure livelihoods and improve their living conditions.

Addis Ababa aims to develop Lenegewa into a centre of excellence with the capacity to train up to 10,000 women annually and serve as a source of experience for similar initiatives in Ethiopia and elsewhere in Africa.

The visit by Hohn and his team comes as the city administration looks to scale up the programme through cooperation with partners.

CIFF is an international philanthropic organisation that supports programmes in areas including health, nutrition, climate and economic development.
