Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie said the Ethiopian capital is preparing to host the upcoming Nordic-Africa EV Summit in September following discussions with Norway’s ambassador to Ethiopia on cooperation for the event.

The mayor met with Stian Christensen on Wednesday to discuss preparations for the summit, which is expected to bring together stakeholders from the electric mobility industry, policymakers and development partners.

In a statement released after the meeting, Adanech said the talks focused on areas of collaboration to ensure the successful organisation of the summit. She said Addis Ababa had developed strong experience in hosting major continental and international events.

The mayor added that the city administration would work closely with relevant institutions and partners to organise the event “with the highest standards of professionalism and excellence”.

The summit comes as Ethiopia accelerates its shift toward electric mobility as part of efforts to reduce fuel import costs and expand the use of renewable energy in the transport sector.

Norway has been among the leading countries globally in electric vehicle adoption and has increasingly engaged with African countries on green transport and energy transition initiatives.
