The Addis Ababa City Administration Cabinet has approved the creation of a new office tasked with preparing the capital’s urban structural plan, marking a step toward strengthening long-term city planning.

The decision was passed during the cabinet’s seventh regular meeting of its fifth administrative year, where members deliberated on several regulatory and administrative agendas.

Central to the meeting was the endorsement of a draft regulation establishing the Addis Ababa City Structural Plan Preparation Project Office. The office is expected to coordinate technical studies and guide the formulation of the city’s future urban development framework.

The cabinet also approved a draft regulation governing disciplinary procedures, grievance handling and appeal processes for city government employees. Officials said the framework is intended to standardise administrative practices and reinforce accountability within the municipal civil service.

In addition, members passed a resolution allowing projects classified as having national significance to be transferred through a designated allocation mechanism.

The cabinet further discussed and approved findings from a land grading study, which is used to assess land classification levels for planning and administrative purposes.

City officials said the meeting also covered several other administrative matters, without providing further details.
