Addis Ababa has added a striking new landmark to its cultural landscape with the inauguration of the 15-story Addis Cinema Complex. The facility, spanning 24,000 square meters, is designed to be a hub for arts, entertainment, and community engagement.

Mayor Adanech Abiebie described the project as a testament to the city’s commitment to nurturing Ethiopia’s creative industries. “Modern infrastructure is essential to harness the arts as a driver of economic and social transformation,” she said.

The complex houses two cinema halls seating 1,479 patrons—592 for children and 887 for adults—equipped with advanced sound, lighting, and climate control systems. A four-level parking garage complements the venue’s accessibility.

Beyond screenings, the centre offers offices, studios, art galleries, a library, retail outlets, a supermarket, restaurants, a cafeteria, a beauty salon, a bank, ticketing facilities, and a tour desk. Outdoor spaces include a sports field, a children’s playground, green areas, and digital advertising screens, making the venue a fully integrated cultural and recreational destination.

The mayor highlighted that facilities such as this are part of broader efforts to create an environment conducive to artists and filmmakers, aiming to boost Ethiopia’s film industry and raise its international profile.

The opening ceremony drew high-level participation, including Minister of Culture and Sports Shewit Shanka, Bikila Hurissa of the Prosperity Party, senior federal and city officials, and members of the arts community.
