Addis Ababa has introduced a new artificial intelligence-supported digital platform for civil registration and residency services, city officials confirmed. The system will become operational today, initially covering 50 weredas.

The platform enables residents to access civil registration services directly in their local area, eliminating the need to travel. Mayor Adanech Abebe said that the system promotes accountability and ensures fair service delivery. She noted that the platform consolidates services that were previously provided on paper over the past 14 years.

In addition to streamlining service provision, the digital system records accurate data to support policy formulation and planning. It integrates various service providers under a unified framework and utilises technology developed in collaboration with the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute.

City officials highlighted that the platform represents a significant step toward modernising service delivery and enhancing operational efficiency in civil registration and residency administration.
