Witnesses say "at least 39 people" have been killed in an attack by militants on a militia training camp in the North Wollo zone of the Amhara region.

A senior official in the North Wollo zone administration confirmed to the BBC that the training militia had been attacked, and said that information about the extent of the damage was "being collected."

Three residents said that the attack on a training camp for militia members in Habru Woreda, North Wollo Zone, took place at around 10 pm on September 15, 2025.

The training camp where the attack took place is located near the Jara shelter, where Amhara people displaced from the Oromia region have been living since 2015.

They explained that recently, training has been provided to members of the regional militia.
