A flight carrying 298 Venezuelan nationals deported from the United States landed in Caracas on Friday, Venezuelan authorities said.

The group arrived from El Paso, Texas, at Maquetía Simón Bolívar International Airport, where they were received by citizen safety officials. The Ministry of the Interior, Justice, and Peace said all “relevant protocols” were followed to assist and reintegrate the returnees.

According to Vuelta a la Patria, the government agency coordinating returning citizens, the group comprised 240 men, 47 women, six boys and five girls.

The deportations come amid escalating tensions between Washington and Caracas, as U.S. President Donald Trump considers potential military options in Venezuela. The Trump administration has also increased its military presence in the Caribbean while expanding deportations to several countries.

Earlier this year, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced plans to end the temporary protected status program for Venezuelans in the United States, a move expected to affect thousands.
