Man Sentenced to 25 Years for Murder of Bahir Dar Surgeon

A man accused of murdering Dr. Andualem Dagen, head of surgical services at Tbebe Gion Specialized Hospital in Bahir Dar, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Dr. Andualem was killed on January 31, 2024, in Koshe, a locality outside Bahir Dar. The murder shocked the community and hospital staff, who described him as a “once-in-a-lifetime” professional. He was married with three children.

The Amhara Regional Supreme Court, which handled the case, found the accused, identified as Samuel, guilty and handed down the 25-year sentence in a verdict issued on November 22, 2025.

Colleagues and patients remember Dr. Andualem for his dedication and compassion, and his death left a lasting impact on the local medical community.
