
Residents told Addis Standard that more than 25 people were killed and more than 20 residents were kidnapped in an attack allegedly carried out by "Fano forces" in Horo Guduru Welega Zone, Abe Dongoro District on August 30, 2025.
The groups, which they called "extremist Fano forces", opened fire at a place called Kebele Galesa in Homa Galesa and stated that 26 people died immediately, and the whereabouts of 21 others are still unknown.
Among the 26 people who were killed, the residents stated that there were elderly, women, and children; He said the gunmen carried out the shooting attack from Friday morning till 9 pm. "When the militants attacked for so long, the law enforcers did not come, and the defense forces came to the scene the next day," They said.
The leadership of the Fano armed forces operating in the area denied that "the reorganized Fano militants in the area have no hand in this attack" and blamed the government forces. "Those who carry out such killings may be wearing Fanon's clothes, but they are not in our structure," he said.
He added that they know that "members of the militia who were in line with the security forces in the past have committed murders like the one in Abe Dongoro." The leader of Fano said, "We think that these groups will commit such crimes by taking a mission from the government.
